Pahang And Perlis Dissolve State Assemblies Ahead Of GE15

Pahang and Perlis have announced the dissolution of their state assemblies effective today, 14 October.

This will allow state elections to be held simultaneously with the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

According to Bernama, the Menteri Besar of both states were granted audiences with their respective rulers this morning to seek consent.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail was granted an audience with the Regent and Crown Prince of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Sultan Abdullah.

Meanwhile, Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man said he had received the consent of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

The Pahang state legislative assembly was dissolved effective today, 4 October.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had announced the dissolution of Parliament on 10 October, which will make way for GE15 in the next 60 days

According to Free Malaysia Today, Ismail Sabri suggested that the state assemblies also be dissolved to allow state and parliamentary elections to be held concurrently.

As Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka, and Johor recently held their state elections, the Barisan Nasional (BN)-led states of Pahang, Perlis, and Perak; Pakatan Harapan (PH)-controlled states of Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan; as well as PAS-led Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah, may choose to dissolve their state assemblies, or hold separate state elections that must be held next year, less than a year from parliamentary elections.

The remaining BN-led state, Perak, is still deliberating on whether it will dissolve its state assembly in view of possible floods

Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah is still deliberating on Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad’s proposal to follow suit and dissolve its state assembly, reported New Straits Times.

Meanwhile, PH has yet to reach a consensus on whether it will dissolve all three state assemblies controlled by them in time for GE15.

According to Malay Mail, PAS has maintained its stance on not dissolving the state assemblies of Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah.
