The two-minute-and-47-second Facebook video shows Muhammad Haziq Mohd Asyraf talking urgently about a large snake the residents of Bukit Selambau, Sungai Petani found while cleaning the drains.
Mimicking a news report, Haziq said the market vendors were surprised to find the reptile after thinking the drains were clogged with rubbish.
“Assalamualaikum, residents of Bukit Selambau, and good afternoon. I’m Muhammad Haziq Mohd Asyraf and this is the latest news, reporting live from the market of Bukit Selambau,” he says in the livestream on Monday, 24 January.
Haziq’s mother, who sells vegetables at the market, told Kosmo that the Kuala Muda Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) arrived in the evening to catch the snake.
According to APM, the 30kg python was indeed stuck in the drain, and has been caught and released back into its natural habitat.
“Before the APM arrived, my son did a livestream on his Facebook account about finding the python,” Haziq’s mother said.
“Who knew that [the video] would get public attention instead. There were people leaving comments like, ‘This boy is really the dahsyat (impressive) one, not the snake’.”
Some even called him Malaysia’s best reporter of the year.
“This is the best news coverage, and it was live too! So detailed, until he even said he was doing his school work halfway when they found the snake,” said a Facebook user.
“Wow, adik you’re quick to go live like an on-site journalist. You’re good, adik. Energetic,” said another.
Netizens were also once again in stitches after Astro Awani visited the boy in Bukit Selambau today, 25 January, to conduct a short report of his neighbourhood market.
