Two siblings in Perlis were recently confronted by state secretary officer Reswan Ramli for flouting quarantine after one of them tested positive for COVID-19

Padang Besar district police chief Supt Saifudin Aslin Abbas told Berita Harian that a 21-year-old man and his 24-year-old sister were placed under a Home Surveillance Order (HSO) from 23 August until 5 September.

The man tested positive for COVID-19 while the sister tested negative but was identified as his close contact as they live in the same home.

However, authorities found that the two have been flouting quarantine orders and left their home to meet friends.

Reswan then scolded the two from outside of their home after a police report was filed against them.

He told the Malay daily that he wanted to teach the siblings a lesson so they will not take their health and safety lightly.

The confrontation was captured on video, which has since gone viral

“What is regrettable is that one of them was willing to cut the Ministry of Health (MOH) quarantine wristband and it is understood that the act of meeting their friend also caused some individuals who had contact with them to test positive for the virus,” Reswan added.

In the clip, Reswan can be heard scolding the two in a stern manner. He asked, “Do you want me to catch you? Then why did you go against the orders? Stay in the house!”

The man who broke quarantine was issued a fine of RM6,500 while his sister was compounded RM1,500

Saifudin Aslin Abbas explained that the man was compounded for cutting his pink quarantine wristband, purposely leaving quarantine premises, failing to abide by standard operating procedures (SOPs), and bringing a friend into quarantine premises.

“The man’s sister was compounded RM1,500 for purposely leaving quarantine premises and violating SOPs,” he added.

The case was investigated under Regulation 16 PU (A) 293/2021 Act 342 Emergency Ordinance (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) 2021.
