THE government has proposed RM15.6 billion of allocation to improve the country’s water supply in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), says Environment and Water Minister Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

He said the allocation, which is 20% higher than the allocation in 11MP, will be used to strengthen the water supply system and infrastructure and the search for new water resources in the country.

A total of RM13 billion has been disbursed for this purpose within the 11MP.

“Water infrastructure must be at a high level of readiness to avoid any risk of consumption either to domestic consumers and industry,” he said in his opening address of Asiawater 2020 virtual event this morning.

The government is expected to announce the 12MP early next year.
