Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said all members of the state executive council should be retained.

PETALING JAYA: Umno has called on PPBM and PAS to stay together and maintain the Perikatan Nasional-led state government.

In a statement, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said the vote of confidence which Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost, does not affect the state government.

“The vote of confidence today only involves the MB’s post without changing the status of the state administration.”

“Umno also believes that PPBM and PAS must keep on supporting the Perikatan Nasional state government in Perak,” Ahmad Maslan said.

He said all the members of the state executive council should be retained.

Faizal, the PPBM deputy president, lost the confidence of the Perak state assembly after 48 members voted against a motion of confidence in him tabled earlier today.

There were 10 votes in support of Faizal and one spoilt vote on the motion moved by Pengkalan Baru’s Umno assemblyman Abdul Manaf Hashim.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan then said PAS will not be part of the new Perak government that would be formed.

In October, FMT had reported that the Perak government was at risk of collapsing as a result of discontent among state Umno leaders and their coalition partner, PPBM.
