KLANG, Nov 13 — Pakatan Harapan’s Klang seat candidate for the 15th general election, Ganabatirau Veraman said that he will be the strongest voice in Parliament on flood prevention issues if he’s voted into the Dewan Rakyat.

In an interview with Malay Mail yesterday he said that flood prevention is close to his heart as he has worked extensively on the matter as the Kota Kemuning assemblyman and Selangor socio-economic, empowerment, development and caring government committee chairman.

“Other MPs have the issues that they champion, such as environmental issues. This (flood prevention) is something I feel I must and something that I want to take up,” he said when met at his service center in Pandamaran here.

He said there were large amounts of allocations from both federal and state governments for flood prevention efforts around the county even before the massive floods last December, but implementation in many cases had been slow with progress lagging to date.

He also said that in his experience, government agencies in many cases took years to communicate with one another before a project would be started – something he said led back to a sense of complacency and, occasionally, egoistic behavior among the officers.

“I think the government agencies should be held responsible.

“I think it’s not enough to say that politicians need to be changed. I think their total administration system needs to be cured, the corruption virus or tidak apa (it’s okay) attitude is too much.

“But then some people say I’m being disrespectful to government staff and so on,” he said.

Ganabatirau will be contesting in a seven-cornered fight in Klang, including with Barisan Nasional’s Tee Hooi Ling, Parti Warisan Sabah’s Loo Cheng Wee, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s S. Chandrasegar, Perikatan Nasional P. Jaya Chandran.

The other two candidates are Hedrhin Ramli and J.R. Deepak Jaikishan.
