Employers must give their workers time off or leave if election day falls on a working day for the 15th General Election (GE15)
Conveyed by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan, the decision comes after the minister stated that it is the right of every Malaysian citizen, aged 18 and above, to vote and perform their duties for the nation.
“The employers must comply with the government’s directive. They must allow employees to vote. Whether the employees are given occasional public holidays (cuti peristiwa), replacement leave or time off,” he said to reporters after presenting Deepavali contributions yesterday, 16 October, in Tapah, Perak.

Furthermore, Saravanan noted that action will be taken against any employer who does not comply with this directive
The Election Commission will hold a meeting on 20 October to set important dates related to GE15, after Parliament was dissolved on 10 October by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
