Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador is among the list of potential candidates to contest in the 15th General Election (GE15) under a new coalition
Abdul Hamid was the IGP before Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani succeeded him in May 2021.
According to New Straits Times, he is a possible candidate for the Rembau parliamentary seat in Negeri Sembilan, where he could face UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
This will mark Abdul Hamid’s maiden entry into politics after about 40 years of public service. He is now a farm owner.
When he was appointed as the IGP, Abdul Hamid said he would dedicate himself to reforming the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to ensure it would be “respected by the people”, reported theSundaily.
During his two-year stint, he claimed that the police force had a “dirty cops” cartel and often warned his officers to distance themselves from criminal activities. Before his retirement, he even criticised Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin for interfering in police matters.
In 2015, he was part of the special task force to investigate 1MDB but he was transferred out of Bukit Aman later because he believed he was too outspoken over several issues, reported The Edge Markets.

Abdul Hamid is listed as a potential candidate under a new coalition formed by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad called Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA)
GTA consists of four component parties, namely Pejuang, Parti Perikatan India Muslim Nasional (Iman), Parti Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa), and Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra), reported Bernama.
On 4 August, Pejuang chairman Mahathir revealed the formation of the new coalition. The 97-year-old said GTA welcomes non-governmental organisations (NGOs), individuals, academics, and professional groups among the Malays.
“We hope to get support from the people, especially the Malays, because the Malays are the ones doubtful of their future,” Mahathir told reporters two months ago.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Hasan, more popularly known as Tok Mat, will also contest a parliamentary seat for the first time
He is currently the Rantau state assemblyman, a position he has held for four terms since 2004.
Other than being the UMNO deputy president, Mohamad Hasan is also Rembau UMNO division chief, as well as Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman and election director, reported Free Malaysia Today.
The Rembau parliamentary seat is currently held by caretaker Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
