MUAR, Nov 11 — The Election Commission (EC) has urged those with information on the alleged corruption involving postal voting in the Bera parliamentary constituency to contact the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“The EC stresses that if there is bribery or corruption during the postal voting process in Bera as alleged, complainants with information or evidence are advised to report it to the MACC,” the commission said in a statement.

The statement was issued after Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim alleged military personnel in Bera have already cast their votes, even before early voting has been held.

He further claimed to have reliable information that some of these military personnel were paid RM300 each in the constituency of caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Malaysiakini reported that Anwar made his allegation at an event in Kuala Terengganu today.

Early voting is scheduled for November 15.

“How did this (early voting) happen today? I’m worried there was money, pressure, and fraud involved,” he was quoted as saying.

In response, Ismail Sabri reportedly dismissed the claim as a lie and demanded that Anwar apologise to the Malaysian Armed Forces.

“The accusation that the military personnel were paid (to vote) is a malicious accusation. Do not insult them like that.

“I call on Anwar to retract the accusation and apologise, not to me, but to the military personnel who were accused of being paid to vote and everything,” he reportedly told reporters, after attending a programme with the Orang Asli community in Kampung Bongkok.
