The Sims 4 base game has been officially made free-to-play for players worldwide starting 18 October. During the Behind The Streams Summit event, EA’s Vice President Lyndsay Pearson revealed that the studio is now working on the next generation of The Sims, with the working title ‘Project Rene’, which may be The Sims 5.
The next installation of The Sims will have new creative tools that will offer more flexibility in the build and decoration elements of the game
1. Players will be able to customise the headboard and footboard of the beds that was not available in previous The Sims installations.

2. COLOUR WHEEL! Players will be able to customise the colour of their furniture using the new colour wheel feature. Building our virtual dream homes will be taken to a whole other level now.

3. We can also customise the patterns! Soon, there will be no need to scroll through custom content websites anymore. 😛

4. On top of that, players can customise the cushions as well as the throw pillows on the couches.

5. It also seems that the new game may not include grid-lock, as players are free to place and rotate furnitures without having to hold down the ALT button (definitely not speaking from experience).

6. The game will also be available to play across platforms on multiple devices simultaneously. This means you can also play with your friends. As a Simmer myself, this is the feature I’ve been waiting for, so it’s safe to say that I’m super excited for this!
However, we have no further information as to what extent the cross-platform gaming will be enabled. For those who prefer playing alone, fret not, as the multiplayer feature is optional.

It’s worth noting that the game is still in its early development stage, so the final game may not be exactly as shown in the sneak peek given so far.
As of today, there is no specified date on the expected release of the game
“Now, this is just a small taste of what Project Rene and the team is working on, alongside The Sims 4 and mobile teams. Over the next couple of years, we’ll continue sharing updates with all of you on Project Rene,” Pearson stated in the announcement.
