Penang has declared a public holiday on 18 November to give voters time and convenience to make preparations ahead of polling day
19 November is the polling day for the 15th General Election (GE15).
“This special state holiday is to encourage and make it easier for Penangites to fulfil their duty as voters,” Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said in a brief statement, as reported by Malay Mail today, 10 November.
Penang has now become the third state to do so
Previously, the respective state governments in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan also declared 18 November a public holiday in their states to allow residents to travel back to their hometowns to vote in GE15.
Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the caretaker government will study a proposal to declare a special public holiday on 18 November
This came after Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari urged the caretaker Prime Minister to declare a nationwide public holiday for all Malaysians to make it easier for them to cast their ballots.
