Balenciaga recently collaborated with Lay’s to give us potato chip handbags
These Lay’s-branded potato chip bags are priced at USD1,500 (RM7,067) and they are not filled with chips. Made from leather and complete with a zipper, these bags are designed to have that glossy and crumpled effect the way actual Lay’s potato chip bags look.

The bags come in several colours and variety, much like the original Lay’s potato chips, except the names of the flavours are replaced with the word Balenciaga
In an Instagram post, the designer, Demna showed us the details of the potato chip bags, or officially known as the L.O.L clutch bags. Complete with the nutritional values and calorie information on the bag, those unsuspecting would definitely think these were normal bags of Lay’s potato chips.

The inspiration of the handbags came to fruition due to Demna’s love for chips
In a report from Good Morning America, a Balenciaga representative stated that, “Demna loves chips in general, and has carried a bag of Lay’s potato chips as an accessory before.”
“He is also interested in transforming everyday objects into elevated material innovations, a reflection on the Dadaist Readymade project and on the objects that become most ubiquitous in our modern lives,” the representative further explained.

Since it went viral, many have gone online to voice out their opinions on the high-fashion bags:
While most were confused as to why they designed these, some were begging for Lay’s to fill their potato chip bags with less air.

Other users teasingly commented that they can look high fashion while eating a bag of chips while another pointed out that it’s now an expensive bag of air.
