According to a report by New Straits Times published today, 21 December, the floods have displaced about 66,939 individuals.
The victims are now taking shelter at 466 temporary relief centres (PPS) in Selangor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Perak, and Kuala Lumpur.
The number of people affected by the floods could be bigger, as some victims have chosen not to leave their inundated homes.
Although authorities have taken steps to help victims, many everyday Malaysians, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and even companies have risen to the challenge to help stranded victims.
On Twitter, netizens commended a handful of brands for lending a helping hand at short notice, with many of them pledging to pay a visit to their businesses once they get through the storm.
