IPOH: See you at Seri Satria (official residence of the deputy prime minister), said PPBM deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu in jest to reporters today, after handing in his resignation as head of the Perak state government.
Seri Satria is in Putrajaya. His remark came hours after a poster was widely shared on social media, congratulating Ahmad Faizal on his purported appointment as deputy prime minister.
Ahmad Faizal is deputy president of PPBM, whose president, Muhyiddin Yassin, is prime minister. Muhyiddin has not appointed a deputy prime minister but has appointed four senior ministers, and named one of them, Azmin Ali, to chair cabinet meetings in his absence.
Azmin, formerly deputy president of PKR, was among those behind the “Sheraton Move” in February that led to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan federal government and the formation of the Perikatan Nasional coalition government headed by Muhyiddin.
Ahmad Faizal was ousted by a confidence vote in the Perak state assembly yesterday which was defeated by 48 votes to 10, with one abstention.
