KUALA LUMPUR: A Nigerian man suspected of throwing his step-grandson from a fourth floor flat yesterday is believed to have mental health problems, police said.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said the suspect was found to be taking drugs related to mental health, based on information from family members.

“We are also investigating whether he has been getting mental health treatment,” he said.

The man’s statement has yet to be taken as he has been warded at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. The suspect’s wife and the stepdaughter, whom the suspect attempted to rape, were also being treated for trauma and injuries as a result of an assault.

Saiful Azly said the suspect has been remanded for seven days until Dec 6 for investigations into murder and attempted murder.
