Nothing out of the ordinary considering the bustling city centre vicinity.

But there was something about those delivery riders, who appeared en masse from 8am to 1pm, that piqued the interest of people in the neighbourhood — why were they all dressed in yellow, and riding matching coloured motorcycles to boot?

Sama-Sama Lokal is an awesome initiative by Maybank that allows merchants to keep 100% of their commission. It can be accessed through the MAE app by Maybank, which means that you can sort out payments or other banking needs, and follow that by ordering food from a long list of local merchants all in one place. Truly a bank you can count on for more than just traditional financial business, eh?

In fact, this whole shebang with the yellow-clad riders is to let Malaysians know that Sama-Sama Lokal is here and ready to serve you when you log into the MAE app.

At about 11am, promoters stationed by a Maybank kombi truck parked outside Starhill Gallery began handing out bags filled with all kinds of snacks and exclusive vouchers to the delight of passersby in the area.

What’s special about the freebies is that the cute tote bag is designed by a brilliant local illustrator, Marissa Voo or moodoodles, as she’s known on Instagram. Plus, all the yummy snacks inside the bag were proudly made by merchants from Maybank’s Sama-Sama Lokal initiative. How cool is that? 😀

From D.Mas King’s durian truffle popcorn to RJ Chipstore’s salted egg chips, and classic murukku from Ang Ang Cookies, the tote bag was filled with an intriguing selection of snacks that would make any person receiving them crack a smile, heheh.

If you managed to snag a tote bag for yourself, don’t forget to tag @mymaybank on Instagram, or @lalamovemy if you took a selfie with one of the friendly riders.

But the main attraction has got to be an abang, who was making teh tarik(for entertainment purposes) in the middle of it all.

People still got a taste of that sweet, beloved local beverage though, as bottled teh tarik was also given out. Mmm, can’t say no to teh tarik!

It began in 2020 as a means to support local businesses. Previously on Maybank2u, you can now find Sama-Sama Lokal in the MAE app for an enhanced experience.

What’s more, this food delivery feature is great for smaller vendors that are just starting out, as it helps bring their business online at ZERO cost.

In other words, you’ll not only be able to get food delivered to your doorstep, thanks to Sama-Sama Lokal via the MAE app, but you’ll help out local businesses along the way as well. Now, you can fulfil your banking needs and food cravings, all at once. 😉
