Microsoft Rolls Out Hotfix For Windows 10 2H20 Check Disk Issue On SSDs

Microsoft has launched a hotfix for an issue for the Check Disk (ChkDsk) utility issue that has recently up causing problems for SSDs. According to Microsoft, the bug that led to ChkDsk’s causing SSDs to BSOD was introduced with the update KB4592438 that was a part of the Windows 10 2H20 patch.

To recap, running ChkDsk on the latest version of Windows 10 on an SSD could cause the storage medium to corrupt data on it, rather than fix it. The utility is decades old and was designed to work on older hard disk drives (HDD), but having said that, it should not be the case.

At the time of writing, Microsoft says that all affected non-managed devices will be getting the fix within a period of 24 hours. That said, if you’re in a hurry to get the fix installed, the company says that restarting your machine should speed up the process.

For those who are unable to boot into Windows 10 from their SSD, there is a workaround that you can from the source below. Suffice to say, the process is lengthy, but it should ultimately get your Windows 10 system working as usual.
