Mental health issues to be raised at Dewan Rakyat today

KUALA LUMPUR: Mental health issues arising from loss of income, being away from family and anxiety over the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are expected to be raised at the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to the Meeting Order, Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir (PAS-Setiu) will ask the women, family and community development minister about efforts to address the mental health crisis.

Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil (PH-Lembah Pantai) will also ask the prime minister whether the government intends to allow the annual report by the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) to be debated by Parliament, as was done last year.

Che Alias Hamid (PAS-Kemaman) also wants to find out from the prime minister whether the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) is prepared in facing floods during the present monsoon season, as well as compliance with SOPs to prevent the spread of Covid-19 at flood evacuation centres.

The debate at the committee stage on the Supply Bill 2021 for three ministries – foreign, national unity, and plantation and commodities – will be held today..

Yesterday, the allocations for the Prime Minister’s Department and the finance ministry were passed at the committee stage through bloc voting, which saw ayes from the government MPs outnumbering the nays from the opposition.

The Dewan Rakyat will meet until Dec 17.
