According to New Straits Times, Kangar police chief Supt Wari Kiew said the man took his last breath at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital.

The district police chief said the man was in critical condition and received respiratory assistance at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital, reported Utusan Malaysia.

“We were informed that he died at about noon today (17 February),” he said.

The time of his death was not reported.

The incident occurred on the Kampung Syed Omar bridge in Bintong, Perlis at 8.45pm on Wednesday, 16 February.

The victim’s father revealed to the police earlier that he had tried to take his own life in January and last Tuesday, 8 February, before being saved by the family both times.

Wari said the motivation behind the man’s suicide attempts was believed to be disappointment with his ex-girlfriend who has found a new lover.

The district police chief added that the father had suspected that his son was going to make an attempt on Wednesday and rushed to the police station for help after seeing him down a bottle of petrol and leaving the house.
