Lee, who is defending his 2021 All England Title, delivered one of his best performances in recent months to beat Japan’s world number two player Kento Momota 21-7, 13-21, 21-11 last night, 19 March.

According to the official Badminton World Federation website, Momota was unable to sustain his craft through the length of the YONEX All England quarterfinal and succumbed to the power of Lee.

The world number seven will take on the rising Indian star, ranked world number 11, who received a walkover from China’s Lu Guang Zu in his quarterfinal on Friday, 18 March.

Lee won’t find it easy to take on Lakshya, who had defeated world number one and Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark on his way to his maiden Super 300 final last week.

“Momota couldn’t control the shuttle in the first game. I just tried to keep playing my attacking shots. This win gives me a lot of confidence,” he was quoted as saying by the Badminton World Federation.

“The next round will be against Lakshya, who is in good form. I just need to enjoy my game and play the way I have. Lakshya is playing very well and will be a top player in future.”
