Kossan Rubber is the latest glove making company to report Covid-19 cases among its workers.

PETALING JAYA: Yet another glove maker, Kossan Rubber Industries, has announced today that 990 Covid-19 cases have been detected at one of its plants in Klang since intensive screening began on Dec 4.

The company is currently undertaking company-wide screening, targeting more than 8,000 employees across its nine plants and three corporate offices.

In a statement, the company said it was cooperating fully with the health ministry and the local councils to contain the pandemic.

It said employees in the affected plant were undergoing quarantine and that the plant would be closed until Dec 30.

The company assured the public that it took the pandemic and public health very seriously.

Glove manufacturers have been the source of numerous Covid-19 clusters since the onset of the pandemic.

Earlier this month, Hartalega announced that 35 Covid-19 cases had been detected among its workers.

Factories belonging to Top Glove, the world’s largest glove maker, in Meru were the centre of the Teratai cluster — the biggest in the country. There have been 5,540 cases linked to the cluster — the majority of whom are Top Glove’s workers.

Top Glove last week confirmed one of its employees had died due to Covid-19.
