The son, Lee Fong Yeen, shared photos of the trip on Facebook along with a caption that warmed the hearts of many.
“For the first time in my life, I took my dad to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Kuala Lumpur,” Lee said.
“It was the first time he sat in a cable car, saw the Kuala Lumpur skyline, visited Genting’s Chin Swee Caves Temple, the first time he walked around Genting for two hours, saw the Batu Caves rainbow stairs, and also the first time he watched me take photos seriously and became my photography model,” said the mechanic and part-time photographer.
Speaking to SAYS, Lee said that his 68-year-old father was also a mechanic and has retired for six years now.
“My father’s health is also not very good anymore, because of diabetes for over 10 years, his kidneys, legs, and hearing is not good. So I’m always encouraging him to get up to do something and not just lie down and sleep,” the son shared.
Lee said that, thankfully, his mother keeps his father busy with their small online business at home.
“They sell fruits and vegetables and some dry goods, and their customers are always those busy with work. So, my dad always helps to deliver the products,” he said.
Given the seven-hour drive, the son said he often makes these short trips to Kuala Lumpur on his own to visit his maternal grandparents, especially before the pandemic.
So, this time, he thought his father would enjoy the journey and do some sightseeing too.
“When we are children, our parents take us out to eat, drink, and have fun. When we grow up, we should bring our parents to see the world,” he wrote on Facebook.
Additionally, he said, “The pandemic has been difficult for everyone, but before this, I’m sure many will only work hard to take care of themselves instead of thinking of home.”
“The past two years have hopefully taught us to cherish our time with family and to take care of our parents. Filial piety cannot be bought with money, but can only be shown with actions.”
Netizens praised Lee for being a filial son, while many others were inspired to bring their own parents on a holiday.
