(NON-HALAL) PETALING JAYA: Joanne Kam is easily one of the most recognisable personalities in the country. She is practically a household name in the Malaysian comedy scene and has gone on to host radio shows, act on-screen and on-stage and write columns.
Strong, capable and fabulous personality aside, the mere mention of her name would evoke memories of her bold, cheeky topics and stand-up gigs that left the audience in stitches. In fact, one of the most unforgettable jokes ever told by her was one about the difference between Malaysian and Singaporean nasi lemak.
She may have kept the audience roaring in laughter over that food feud, but this jovial jokester took inspiration for her own comedy and began selling what could be a game-changer in the foodie scene – the nasi lemak siew yoke.
FMT caught up with the comedienne-turned-chef to talk about her latest mouth-watering endeavour.

The local comedian said that it all started with her golden-crusted roast pork, humorously known as ‘Poh Poh’s Crack’, which has been a customer favourite since May. She had originally posted a picture of it on her personal Facebook account during the Movement Control Order (MCO), and questions started pouring in about whether she would accept orders.
With her work in showbiz and standup comedy affected by the pandemic, she decided to pursue this venture and started selling her roast pork. Since then, she has been cooking up a storm and delivering ‘Poh Poh’s Crack’ in oodles to hungry customers every single weekend.
The response from her happy (and full) customers had been so overwhelmingly positive and this encouraged Joanne to roll out her own version of Malaysia’s all-time favourite nasi lemak.
Thanks to Joanne’s porcine twist on this popular dish, 72 packets of fragrant nasi lemak along with her crispy, juicy roast pork breezed out of her kitchen doors within the first weekend of introduction.

“Everything from the crispy roast pork to the nasi lemak is my own recipe, especially the rice which came through after experimenting with fried pork lard,” shared Joanne.
“The star of my dish is definitely my roast pork and the lard-flavoured rice that pairs so well with the juicy meat. Not to forget the crispy bits of pork lard sprinkled on the rice!”
The 47-year-old also told FMT that she plans to continue selling this delicious combination every weekend as long as there is a demand for it.

To order this absolutely indulgent dish, you can WhatsApp the talented Queen of Comedy herself at 012-2110202 to place your order.
Each packet of the roast pork nasi lemak goes for RM28 and a minimum of two packets is required when ordering – which is fair, because how will one sinful packet be sufficient?
On a no-carb diet? No problem! You can order Joanne’s famous roast pork instead, which goes for RM100 a kilo and RM60 for 500g.
In like with the festive and feasting season, Joanne has also released a Crack Christmas hamper filled with all things jolly and good like a kilo of roast pork, three types of sauces and, of course, cookies.
Visit this page for more information on the Crack Christmas hamper and to place your orders, but be quick about it as you wouldn’t want to be disappointed!
