At about 4pm today, videos and pictures emerged showing parts of Kuala Lumpur inundated with murky water.

The floods submerged thousands of cars parked in open and underground parking lots around the city, as well as those on the highway that happened to be stuck during peak-hour traffic jam.

A video tweeted by Bernama Radio 4.27pm, reportedly from a member of the public, shows a man climbing onto his car roof to evade the water on Jalan Kuchai Lama.

The flash floods also resulted in the temporary closure of the route in the SMART Tunnel involving the entrance from Taman Desa and Cheras towards the city centre, as well as the tunnel exit from the city centre towards Cheras.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) reported that the Gombak River has passed the “danger level” at Jalan Tun Razak, according to Berita Harian.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob tweeted that the relevant ministries and government agencies have already stepped in to assist flood victims trapped in their homes and cars with evacuations to temporary relief centres.

The water was at chest-level for some homes in the capital.

The bad weather is expected until 13 March in Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, and Sabah, according to MetMalaysia’s website.
