The planned #Lawan protest is currently underway with hundreds of protesters, clad in black, gathering in Kuala Lumpur

Organised by Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR), the people have gathered to protest to express their dissatisfaction against the government for its alleged failure in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today’s protest is seeking the resignation of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The coalition of youth and civil society groups are also calling for the Perikatan National Cabinet to resign, a full parliamentary sitting, and automatic loan moratoriums for all.

In anticipation of the crowd, police have sealed off roads leading into Dataran Merdeka, where the demonstration is planned to be held

New Straits Times reported that the police have been guarding Dataran Merdeka since 9.30am following a previous small rally that took place at the square two weeks ago.

Today’s event is expected to last for two hours.
