THE Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) which was imposed on the Top Glove Corp Bhd’s dormitories in Klang, Selangor, will be extended for a period of two weeks starting today until Dec 14.
Senior Ministry (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (picture) said the EMCO is implemented due to the high infectivity rate in the area.
“There are still new positive cases being identified via the second screening test.
“The Health Ministry (MoH) found that those who tested negative within this cluster are still at high risk,” he said at the daily update.
Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Teratai cluster, associated with the dormitories have recorded an increase of 18 cases.
“Currently, 4,278 positive cases have been identified from this cluster, while a total of 6,602 individuals have been screened.
“This is the largest cluster thus far,” he said.
In the cluster, a total of 2,693 patients are undergoing treatment with one being treated in the intensive care unit, and 1,585 recovered.
Other zones undergoing extended EMCO are Zon A of Taman Klebang Jaya and Taman Pinji Mewah in Ipoh, Temporary Detainment Centre Sibuga, Sandakan, and Kampung Desa Bajau and Kampung Dasar Baru, Lahad Datu.
Another workplace-related cluster is Tapak Bina Awan Biru in Kepong and Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, which noted 18 new cases with a total of 416 active patients, out of 502 screened individuals.
Dr Noor Hisham said as of yesterday, 160,611 foreigners have been tested, out of which 22,396 are positive, 446 are still waiting on results, and a total 63 deaths have been recorded.
Meanwhile, three new clusters have been identified namely Jalan Lapan cluster involving Hulu Langat, Cheras, Kepong and Titiwangsa; Batu Sembilan cluster involving Kuala Langat, Klang, Kuala Selangor and Petaling; as well as Nibong cluster involving Johor Baru.
The country has recorded 1,212 new cases in total as of yesterday, with the highest coming from Selangor at 402, adding to the active count of 10,578.
Other states recording high cases include 326 from Sabah and 141 from Negri Sembilan.
However 2,112 recoveries were also recorded bringing total number of discharged patients to 54,759.
Three new deaths have been recorded, pushing the number of deaths to 360.
Dr Noor Hisham said at the moment, there are still no reports on the third phase of the clinical trials for the Covid-19 vaccine.
“We are hoping there will be reports by next month regarding the vaccine efficiency, and then we have to look into the registration of the vaccine.
“However, it is important to note we will also be looking at targeted vaccination, such as focusing on the frontliners,” he said.
