Disney+ Is Launching In Singapore Next Year. What About Malaysia?

Disney+ is officially launching in Singapore on 23 February 2021

The streaming service will be available to users in Singapore through SGD11.98 monthly and SGD119.98 yearly subscriptions

The subscription will feature over 500 films and 15,000 episodes of content from brands including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Star.

The Star, which is the long-running entertainment platform in India, was acquired by Disney.

“Essentially, [Star] carry a number of shows from Disney’s other non-main franchise brands. That means shows from FX and movies from the 20th Century will be available to stream,” reported The Verge.

Users in Singapore will be able to enjoy Disney+ Originals content and specials including The Mandalorian and upcoming shows like Ms Marvel, WHAT IF…?, Loki, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

However, there’s no news about its Malaysia availability

This, despite the fact that Disney is closing its three kids channels from Astro by 2020 end.

The three channels are Disney Channel HD, Disney Junior HD, and Disney XD.

The silence about its Malaysia plans is particularly interesting given that Malaysia’s Ahmad Izham Omar was appointed as the executive director of content & creative for Disney+ last month.

The 50-year-old was previously the CEO of Malaysia’s largest production house, Primeworks Studios and played a major part in launching 8TV and streaming platform, Tonton.

For now, there’s only this preview page available where people interested in updates can sign up.
