PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Societies has given approval for DAP to postpone its annual congress until June 30, the party’s organising-secretary Loke Siew Fook said this evening.

The congress had been scheduled to be held on Dec 20 in Shah Alam. It would now be held at a later date, he said.

Elections for the party’s 20-seat central executive committee will be held at the congress, which will be attended by almost 4,000 delegates.

Loke said nominations for the central executive committee elections had been completed and the list of candidates finalised. It includes Loke and a host of familiar faces such as secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, party adviser Lim Kit Siang, Teresa Kok, Lim Lip Eng, Gobind Singh Deo, Zairil Khir Johari, Boo Cheng Hau and Abdul Aziz Bari.

The DAP had appealed to the registrar of societies in October to allow a postponement of the congress for at least six months because of the rising number of Covid-19 cases.
