KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested the “mastermind” and two more suspects over the murder of former Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) researcher Wan Hassan Wan Embong in Bangsar on Sunday.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Huzir Mohamed said police conducted raids in several locations here and in Semenyih, where they arrested the three men over their alleged involvement in the murder.
“The third suspect, who is the alleged mastermind, had made an admission that he was the one who stabbed the deceased,” Huzir said at a press conference here today.
He said the two other suspects, who were arrested in Setapak, had criminal records.
“We are still looking for another suspect, known as Sugu Thangarajoo, who allegedly took the ‘mastermind’ into hiding in Semenyih,” he said, adding that police will seek remand orders against the three men.
“With the latest arrests, we believe that this Bangsar murder case as well as other robbery cases around Setapak are solved,” he said.
Police had arrested 10 suspects on Sunday.
Wan Hassan, 70, was slashed with a parang when he tried to put up a fight against burglars who broke in through the kitchen window of his double-storey bungalow at about 3.30am.
Wan Hassan’s wife, Sarifah Yusof, 70, suffered slash wounds on the right hand.
On a separate case, Huzir said police will be rearresting a celebrity television preacher when his remand order ends today.
He said police had received six reports against the preacher up to Oct 30 and have begun investigations under Section 377C of Penal Code for alleged sodomy, Section 376 for alleged rape, and Section 354 for alleged molestation.
“Most of them (police reports) are for recent cases. Regardless of whether an incident is new or old, I urge victims to please come forward and lodge a report,” he said.
