For someone from Penang, an honourable mention of the best chee cheong fun on the island is a must – so here goes – it’s Genting Café’s chee cheong fun.
Genting Café is a kopitiam completely unrelated to Genting Highlands in Pahang. It is located at Island Glades in a residential area next to a school.
The good thing is, it is close to Lim Chong Eu highway, making it an easy stop right after arriving on the island via Penang Bridge. Parking, though, is a different challenge.

There are many stalls in this kopitiam and chee cheong fun is the star. The default order is two pieces of chee cheong fun served with dark sauce (har kou in Cantonese, heh koh in Hokkien) and chilli paste, topped with some sesame seeds.
The chee cheong fun warms you up the moment you put it in your mouth, and you just let that peanut butter-infused dark sauce and chilli work its magic to tickle all the right senses.
It’s a dish so simple yet so satisfying, it’s a wonder others have not tried to recreate it.
The char kueh teow, prawn mee, and curry mee are pretty legit here as well if the chee cheong fun is not enough.
