PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) today confirmed that its website and database were hacked recently, in an attempt to steal information from the government.
Its chief, Affendi Buang, said the incident was detected by the Cyber Electromagnetic Command and MAF’s Cyber Defence Operations Centre, both of which had implemented network segregation to hide the location of classified data.
“The cyberattack failed to affect the actual operations of the portal and only successfully hacked certain segments that have been placed outside of the network from the start.
“MAF is also aware of ongoing attempts of cyberattacks on information networks owned by the defence ministry and MAF,” he said in a statement.
Affendi, said the armed forces were constantly monitoring the situation.
He said they were routinely working on enhancing the forces’ cybersecurity, to protect the national defence strategic communication network.
