IPOH: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi arrived at Istana Kinta this morning for an audience with Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah.
It is understood that Zahid will be presenting the results of discussions at a special meeting with state Umno leaders last night. Speculation is rife that Umno liaison chief Saarani Mohamad has been nominated for the post by the party’s leadership.
The meeting was attended by all Umno Supreme Council members from Perak, the head of divisions as well as 25 state assemblymen.
However, the media did not receive any response from the party’s state leaders after the three-hour meeting ended.
It was previously reported that Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming, Perak PKR head Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak and Amanah state chief Asmuni Awi also had an audience with the Sultan yesterday, followed by Saarani.
Their audience with the Sultan comes after PPBM deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu was ousted as Perak menteri besar through a vote of confidence in the state assembly on Friday.
Faizal was defeated by 48 votes to 10, with one spoilt vote. He handed in his resignation letter to the Sultan yesterday, which was accepted together with those of his exco members.
