Whether you bike, skateboard, rollerblade, rollerskate, or ride a scooter, staying cooped up at home all these months must have been tough.
As the Klang Valley transitions into the exit phase of the COVID-19 recovery, inter-district travel is now allowed again. On top of this, many restrictions have been lifted, namely involving non-contact sports.
With that in mind, skaters would do well to maintain physical distancing from other enthusiasts, and remember to keep following the SOPs so we can beat this pandemic!
1. Bukit Jalil National Stadium Skatepark
As the name suggests, this skatepark is located adjacent to the National Stadium, with a healthy amount of banks and ledges to keep the sesh interesting.
If you’re just starting out, or prefer cruising, then the wide, tiled concourses will be your best friend!

2. Shah Alam Extreme Park
Dubbed the “default” skatepark for many city-folk, Shah Alam Extreme Park has been around since the early 2000s and features one of the largest skating expanses around.
Located 5-minutes from the famous Raja Tun Uda Library, the skatepark sits under the shadow of the Shah Alam Stadium, and even has a KFC and Pizza Hut on it’s premises. Talk about convenience!
Address: Jalan Lompat Pagar 13/37, Seksyen 13, 40100, Shah Alam, Selangor
Operating Hours: 0900 to 1900 hours
3. Sungai Kantan Youth Park, Kajang
This spot is located in the sleepy south-east suburb of Kajang, but is no slouch. Also known as ‘Satay Skatepark’, it features a variety of ramps and rails, and is littered with Converse livery.
Re-launched on April 2017 in collaboration with the American apparel company, it has since been renamed MBKj Youth Park after the local council.
Address: 7458, Jalan Sungai Kantan, Taman Sri Kantan, 43000, Kajang, Selangor
Operating Hours: 24 hours
4. USJ 1 Skatepark, Subang Jaya
Subang is well known to be a hotbed of the Malaysian skateboarding scene, with the Wheel Love skateshop in SS15 being where many newbies used to buy their first complete.
Although the shop has now moved to Bangsar, the ‘Mecca’ of street-skate, the USJ 1 Skatepark, is still going strong.
Located within the Taman Sukan MPSJ grounds, it features a flat-land expanse filled with ramps, platforms, and grindboxes. Definitely a place friendly for beginners and old heads alike.
Address: Jalan USJ 1/2, Taman Subang Permai, 47500, Subang Jaya, Selangor
Operating Hours: 0600 – 2000 hours
5. Mont Kiara Skatepark
If you’re a skater in Malaysia, chances are you have already heard of this OG spot. Such is the legend of this place, world-renowned skater Tony Hawk even chose to visit here back in 2014 on his Malaysian sojourn, instead of any of the other spots on this list.
One of the only above-ground and fully-sheltered skateparks in the country, it has everything you might expect in terms of layout and variety. There is even an in-house pro shop, and extensive seating overlooking the court.
The park has been closed since August 2019 for renovation work, but is set to reopen on 13 November!
Address: Jalan Bukit Kiara 1, Bukit Kiara, 60000, Kuala Lumpur
Operating Hours: N/A
6. TTDI Mini-Ramp
Technically not a skatepark, but this entry has a lot of heart.
The newest (and perhaps smallest) suggestion on this list, the Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI) mini-ramp was only erected earlier this year.
Located on a field in the middle of suburbia, the ramp was originally custom-built for a previous competition at the Mont Kiara skatepark. The group TTDI Skateboarding then took it upon themselves to install the ramp to address the lack of facilities in the area.
It may not be much, but there is always a welcoming and supportive commune of regulars and newbies alike. But keep in mind it is a mini-ramp, so perhaps practise your ollies at home first if you’re starting out.
Address: Jalan Aminuddin Baki, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, 60000, Kuala Lumpur
Operating Hours: 24 hours
Although just outside of the Klang Valley, this legendary spot deserves to make it onto this list nonetheless.
Nestled within a sprawling 30-hectare complex in nearby Putrajaya, this skatepark is one of the more challenging venues in Malaysia.
Designed and built by ex-pro skater Tim Altic, the spot consist of mainly bowls with the odd ledge here and there. However, there is a nearby concourse with a single ‘bench’ to execute flat-ground tricks if you’re inclined.
Address: Jalan P5, Presint 5, 62200, Putrajaya
Operating Hours: 0900 to 1900 hours
