Show me middle finger footage in my office, speaker tells MP

Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun says deputy minister Willie Mongin denied showing his middle finger in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun told the House he is unable to make a ruling on a deputy minister accused of flashing a middle finger, stating he failed to see the act due to poor vision.

He said he had asked deputy plantation industries and commodities minister Willie Mongin for an explanation on the claims made by opposition MPs.

He said Mongin denied flipping the bird.

“After that, I watched the video in slow motion and could not determine if it took place or not,” he told MPs urging for an action to be taken against the Puncak Borneo MP.

Due to that, Azhar said, his decision was that he could not determine if the claims were true, and urged those unhappy with his decision to file a written motion.

Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) then proposed to Azhar if he could come to the Speaker’s office to show him the “middle finger” footage.

Azhar replied: “YB, Kota Melaka, please come to my office.”

Khoo said he will visit the speaker’s office later.

Yesterday, Kasthuri Patto (PH-Batu Kawan) claimed that Mongin twice showed his middle finger in the Dewan Rakyat.

This incident allegedly took place minutes before the voting for the plantation industries and commodities ministry’s 2021 budget at the committee stage.

Mongin, the deputy minister, had earlier read the winding up speech on behalf of the ministry.
