According to a 22 October report in Harian Metro, the victim was whipped by her employer at his house in Kelana Jaya on Monday, 18 October. She worked as a housemaid for him.

The woman managed to flee from the suspect’s house and proceeded to the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to seek protection. She then lodged a police report against the employer, who is in his 40s.

“The case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM) after the employer was believed not to have paid the maid’s salary for a long time,” Harian Metro quoted an unnamed source as saying.

It’s not clear if the suspect has been called in for questioning or arrested yet.

When contacted, he confirmed receiving a report involving the incident but declined to comment further.
