This Spotlight is sponsored by Maybank.
Over the past two years, Maybank’s Sama-Sama Lokal platform has been dedicated to supporting and helping local businesses thrive during challenging times. In fact, the platform has made it easy for Malaysians to support local businesses, from restaurants and hawkers, to mom-and-pop as well as sundry shops.
What makes Sama-Sama Lokal one of a kind is that it does not impose any commission or hidden fees, which means merchants get to keep 100% of what they earn.
In fact, the platform recently went through some revamping, promising customers and businesses a better and more seamless experience, whether it’s to place orders or set up a business.
1. The first thing you’ll notice is that you have tonnes of local businesses to choose from
From Maybank’s top picks to hawker food, restaurants, groceries, health and beauty products, home appliances, and so many more, almost everything you need is available on the platform. There are even separate tabs for you to enjoy their ongoing promotions.
For lunch, I decided to order my meal from the Restaurants and Cafes tab, while for dinner, I went with the Hawker tab.
2. You can order from merchants nearby you, or even up to 60km away! :O
In fact, the list of merchants starts off with the restaurant nearest to you, which means that the delivery distance increases as you continue to scroll down the app.
I was surprised to find out that they display merchants up to 60km away from your place. This means you can satisfy your cravings even if the restaurant is on the other side of town. Plus, it’s easy to filter your searches by cuisine, promo type, and even delivery type (delivery or pick-up).
3. Ordering food from the delivery platform is straightforward and easy
Nasi Lemak Salted Egg Fried Chicken from Mamalee
Price: RM14.50
Delivery fee: RM3.65 (after discount)
Total paid: RM18.15
Since it’s been sooooo long since I had Mamalee’s nasi lemak, I just had to order it when I saw it on Sama-Sama Lokal. The price was around the same as what you’d get in the restaurant, so it was pretty worth it. When the food sampai, it was still hot and just as yummy as I remember. I’d order nasi lemak from the restaurant via Sama-Sama Lokal again!
British Classic Fish N Chip Sando Shibuya Shokupa from Taste by Bert
Price: RM28
Delivery fee: RM18.90
Total paid: RM46.90
As lunch was quite heavy, I felt like having a sandwich for dinner, which was why I went with Taste by Bert’s Fish N Chip sando. Although RM28 for a sando may sound expensive, but the fish they used was fresh and flavourful. Every ingredient in the sandwich just complemented each other so well, so it was definitely worth the price.
As the restaurant is located in Bukit Jalil, about 15km away from my place, I paid RM18.90 for delivery. It was a bit pricey, but considering the distance and the quality of food I got, I had no complaints. Plus, I didn’t have to go through the hassle of driving all the way to Bukit Jalil myself, yay!
4. Delivery is seamless and fast
I got my lunch in less than half an hour, while for dinner, it took about 50 minutes as the restaurant was over 15km away from my place.
Overall, I was surprised with the fast delivery, but this is also because I placed my orders before the rush hour. So, do note that if you order during peak hours, you may have to expect a longer delivery time.
5. They have lots of discounts available, from RM10 off delivery to 60% off your total bill
Check out Sama-Sama Lokal’s ongoing promotions:
Sapot Peniaga Kecil

30% Off Shop Sampai Syiok

Plus, all these promos come with up to RM10 off delivery fee, which is automatically deducted when you check out!
However, there is a daily redemption limit for the delivery fee discount and other promotions. I originally wanted to redeem the 30% Off promo for dinner, but found out that it was fully redeemed for the day. Additionally, you can only redeem your RM10 delivery off once per day, so I paid an RM18.90 delivery fee for dinner, because I had already used the discount on my lunch order.
As Sama-Sama Lokal doesn’t charge any commission or hidden fees to merchants, I not only got to enjoy paying the same prices like I would when dining in, but was also able to support local businesses!
Plus, the payment process was easy and hassle-free. Whether you have a Maybank account or a MAE wallet, paying for your order requires minimal effort. You don’t have to use debit or credit cards for anything.
I think the best part about Sama-Sama Lokal was their promos. With RM10 off delivery and tonnes of other daily promos, you get to enjoy extra savings.
Don’t want to pay for delivery? Sama-Sama Lokal also has a pick-up option, so just order and pick up your food lah. You don’t even have to queue up.
