THE Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) will take legal action against several companies including the world’s largest glove manufacturer, Top Glove Corp Bhd, involving the provision of housing for their employees.

On Nov 26, enforcement operations were conducted in five states simultaneously involving six groups of Top Glove companies.

Based on the results of the operation, a total of 21 investigation papers have been opened and 63 charges involving the six groups of companies will be prosecuted in court for breaching the Minimum Standards of Housing, Accommodation and Employee Facilities Act 1990 (Act 446).

In a press conference in Putrajaya today, JTKSM DG Asri Abd Rahman said they will prosecute the companies in court, adding that fines and compounds will also be imposed on defaulting employers.
