A local businesswoman in Kelantan alleges that she had been scammed by a relative who offered her skin whitening injections last year

Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat told Sinar Harian that the woman underwent 17 different beauty treatment sessions at the suspect’s home.

The suspect told the victim that she worked at a popular beauty treatment centre in Kuala Lumpur and that she had the qualifications to carry out the procedure.

The victim paid RM95,000 for two different treatments dubbed ‘face jab’ and ‘dripping’.

She is now at risk of kidney disease and other health issues.

Shafien explained that the procedures were carried out at the suspect’s home after she claimed that she had obtained the supplies from her employer in the capital city.

“In March 2021, the victim started experiencing serious skin problems and after receiving treatment at the medical centre, the victim was told that she received the wrong skin treatment and is now at risk of kidney disease,” he elaborated.

The victim then tried to obtain more information from the beauty treatment centre and found out that the suspect was never employed there at all.

The centre also assured that no treatment procedures are allowed to take place outside of their premises.

Suspecting that she had been scammed, the victim then lodged a report at the Tumpat police station

The case is now being investigated under Section 419 of the Penal Code for cheating by personation.

Shafien noted that if found guilty, the offender can be punished with imprisonment of up to seven years or a fine, or both.
