KUALA LUMPUR: A man suspected of being involved in the robbery and killing of a former Mardi researcher in Bangsar yesterday has been arrested by police via facial recognition.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said the victim’s wife, who was at the scene, had recognised the suspect, making it easy for the police to detain him.

The victim’s wallet was also found at another break-in at an engineer’s house in Taman Tiara Titiwangsa.

Saiful Azli confirmed that the police had detained 10 male suspects, aged from 20 to 29 years, for investigation, eight of whom had previous criminal records. They were all remanded until Dec 6.

Several other suspects were being sought, he said.

The former researcher, Wan Hassan Wan Embong, 71, died after he was hacked with a parang when he tried to put up a fight against two men who broke in through a kitchen window of the two-storey bungalow in Bukit Bandaraya.

His wife Sarifah Yusof, 70, sustained injuries on her hand.
