A local businesswoman-cum-online personality recently landed in hot water after posting photos of her trip to Janda Baik, Pahang on Instagram
On Monday, 13 September, the woman uploaded photos of herself and her family riding all-terrain vehicles (ATV) at a campsite.
Her caption read, “Alhamdulillah, when we heard that the government declared that all leisure activities can now take off their ‘masks’, we became the first to officiate @rimbavalley.jandabaik with the children in Janda Baik yesterday.”
“Only 30 minutes from our home, this is good news for kids who have been trapped at home for too long. We’re not the only ones happy to get to go into the forest, people in the forest were also happy to see us,” she added jokingly.
The post garnered over 7,389 likes and has been republished by netizens on other social media platforms.

She also emphasised that a travel permit is not needed to travel to Janda Baik as the Gombak Toll Plaza is located within the Selangor border
The woman, who is also the wife of a former politician, wrote, “No need for a letter because the Gombak Toll Plaza is still within the Selangor border. Those who want to cross states still need a letter. What’s important is, no matter where we go, we still have to maintain a physical distance and complete two doses of the vaccine, okay?”

Her post garnered backlash from netizens, especially those who have been patiently waiting to cross state borders so they could reunite with loved ones
One person wrote, “My wife is from Janda Baik. But since January 2021, we couldn’t go back there. My question is, can we really travel interstate? If we can, I really want to go back to my hometown to meet my in-laws. I swear to Allah that I really want to see them.”

Directing their comment to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), a user commented, “PDRM, can we travel interstate for recreational purposes? I’m from Pahang but can’t go back to my hometown.”

A Twitter user wrote, “Seriously? My hometown is in Janda Baik and I’m still decaying here in Shah Alam. I have yet to travel to Janda Baik. It’s been months since I went back to my hometown. Or has Janda Baik become a district within Selangor?”

Following the backlash, the businesswoman has since restricted the comments on her Instagram profile.
