Yesterday morning, 8 September, a red Perodua Axia was allegedly seen knocking over a cyclist on Jalan Kinabalu in Kuala Lumpur
In traffic camera footage that has gone viral, it appears the driver of the car purposely knocked over the cyclist, who was seen riding on the far left side of the road near Dataran Merdeka.
The cyclist, a 33-year-old Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) employee, was riding from Cheras towards Jalan Kuching when the red Perodua Axia hit him from behind. The driver did not stop and drove away.
According to Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Sarifudin Mohd Salleh, the victim suffered light injuries and later lodged a police report over the accident.
The victim’s bicycle was completely damaged in the accident.
The man behind the wheel has since been tracked down
The 22-year-old driver was brought to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department police station, where the report was lodged, to assist with further investigations.
The Perodua Axia has been seized and the case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 166/59 for failure to exercise due control over the movements of a vehicle.
The driver was reportedly released from custody.
