PETALING JAYA: Any plan by opposition parties to take over the government will fail if they cannot work on their unity which appears to be frail now, says Penang Deputy Chief Minister P Ramasamy.
He said the opposition parties must reset, recalibrate and reinvent to strengthen their forces if they hoped to dislodge the Perikatan Nasional government.
“Whether there is going to be a grand coalition of parties or not is yet to be seen.
“But one thing is clear, without uniting the opposition taking Putrajaya is a pipe dream,” he said in a Facebook post today, adding that while the “grand opposition coalition” was a good idea, it could not simply be formed for its own sake.
He said dislodging the PN government would not be an easy task, adding that it was vital for opposition parties to come up with an “unthinkable” approach to do so.
He said the irreconcilable differences between opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad must be resolved if the opposition wants to take on PN.
“It might look impossible, but then how do you take on the government of Muhyiddin Yassin that took a backdoor approach to grab power?” he asked.
He urged opposition parties to iron out their differences for the sake of public interest.
“For a start, I suggest that opposition party leaders come together in a closed forum for a frank debate and decide on matters of common interest.”
He said it was pertinent that certain leaders apologise for their past mistakes first and be held accountable before a fresh start could be made.
“The opposition must be transparent as to why it lost power after the GE14 win and who was responsible for this debacle. We must reassure the public that the debacle will not be repeated in the future,” he said.
