For the uninitiated, Metronomik is founded by local game developers Wan Hazmer and Daim Dziauddin, who have worked on international titles such as Final Fantasy XV and Street Fight V respectively.
The independent studio released their first game in 2020 called No Straight Roads that was a critical success and has grown a passionate global fanbase for its vibrant visuals and killer soundtrack.
Now, not a year after its release, the creators are proud to announce an all-new game that will be “weirder and more fantastical” than their debut.
“No Straight Roads was loved by many for its slight hints of Malaysian identity to reflect the development team and the English voice actors,” game director Wan Hazmer said.
“Thanks to the warm reception worldwide, we now have the confidence to go all-out with our Malaysian culture for Ondeh Ondeh.”
Given their love for music, the creators said the game will also be audio-centric like No Straight Roads — a game about an indie rock band rebelling against the electronic dance music (EDM) empire — but in a “totally different manner”.
They have yet to reveal any other details about its gameplay.
However, based on its debut teaser and concept music that draws much from Malaysian culture, Ondeh Ondeh looks and sounds like it will definitely be a nostalgic, whimsical adventure.
