Shafiq Adnan, who moved into his own apartment in Petaling Jaya, recently went viral after sharing about how he turned his rented unit into a bohemian-themed home.
Sometime in December last year, the senior customer analyst moved into his current space, which he rents for RM1,000 a month.
The unit came pretty bare, so he got most of his furniture from local stores and IKEA.
“I also travelled to Nilai 3 (Wholesale Centre) for the carpets, which are cheaper there,” he said, adding that he bought plants online to add a touch of green.
“Brown, white, and black were the base colours of the decoration… I later added some greens from the plants to complement it,” he shared during an interview with SAYS.
All of the furniture and decoration in his living room – from the little kitchen to the platform area with the big mirror – cost him around RM5,000 to RM6,000 in total.
If you’re looking to live on your own, Shafiq’s advice is to just take the leap. Of course, given that you have the means for it.
“It gets pretty lonely sometimes but the peacefulness to be in your own space is something that is just precious. You are free to do anything on your own and no one can tell you otherwise.”
“Invite some friends over sometimes, good food and drinks to charge up, and when it’s over, you’re back into your own world. That is just great.”
