In a series of tweets on Sunday, the MB announced an array of rescue measures that had been carried out to help flood victims in Taman Sri Muda, one of the hardest-hit flood areas.
At 4.18pm, he said additional boats from Kuala Selangor’s Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) had been deployed to Seksyen 25 for rescue missions.
Three hours later, Amirudin reported that 12 boats from the General Operations Force (GPA) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were mobilised to Taman Sri Muda.
At 10.25pm, the MB uploaded a video of him wading in floodwaters to bring a boat of flood victims to a safe location.
“I’m at Taman Sri Muda tonight to help stranded flood victims with the rescue team. Other than facing the water that is not receding, the other challenges we face include the pitch dark atmosphere and abandoned cars that make moving difficult,” said the 41-year-old.
A one-minute and 18-second long video shows him carrying a baby to safety while his legs were fully submerged in the water.
In the video caption, he revealed that the building he was in housed a family with a newborn child and a senior citizen.
“The rescue process will continue tonight to remove all the stranded victims,” he tweeted at 10.40pm yesterday.
He said the water began to recede to a depth of 1m to 2m.
“Many also do not want to move. The main focus now is the food supply,” he said today.
As of 10am, he said 32,044 individuals have been placed in 162 temporary relief centres (PPS) in all nine districts in Selangor.
The MB said Klang district recorded the highest number with a total of 18,858 individuals.
