From now until 31 December 2022, head over to Gamuda Gardens, Gamuda Cove, twentyfive.7, Jade Hills, or Horizon Hills to shoot a video for a chance to win big. It’s all up to your creativity — take a walk by the park, visit a nearby mall, as long as you manage to capture what a home means to you.

But if you aren’t sure where to start, fret not! Here are a few simple hacks to help you level up your TikTok videos and Instagram Reels:

1. Use a tripod, Align Tool, and timer to make smooth transitions

Most of the transition effects on TikTok videos and Instagram Reels involve you combining two clips in a seamless manner. And the perfect way to do that is to ensure your second clip starts off right where the first clip ended.

To do that, use a tripod, along with the Align Tool and timer within Instagram. Alternatively, you can use a third-party app like CapCut and its Overlay feature to get the same effect.

STEP 1: Set up your tripod and use your selfie camera to set the scene, then take your first clip.

STEP 2: Activate the Align Tool, so you have an idea of the position where you left off. Then, set a timer and get in place, before filming the second clip.

STEP 3: Combine both clips together and trim it so the transition is smooth.

2. To do a jump cut, make sure your cameraman jumps together with you

Known as a jump cut, a.k.a. a person jumping and the background changing, this is one of the most popular transition effects. While you’ve probably seen a TikTok video or Instagram Reel with this effect, here’s a behind the scenes look at what filming it is actually like.

STEP 1: Jump, and make sure your cameraman jumps together with you.

STEP 2: Go to your next location and repeat.

STEP 3: Stitch all your clips and try to time the change of scenes together with the beat.

3. One of the easiest transitions is by covering your camera

A fun way to transition from scene to scene is by using the camera cover effect, and you won’t need any extra tools other than your hand or surroundings. Just remember to fully cover your phone’s camera to get the best result.

STEP 1: Cover your camera lens completely (with your hand or a surface). Then, click record and remove your hand/start filming your first clip. End your first clip by covering your camera lens again.

STEP 2: Start and end your second clip in the same way.

STEP 3: Stitch your clips together and edit your transitions until they look seamless.

4. You can use built-in effects or manually swipe for seamless cuts

The great thing about TikTok and Instagram is that they have all kinds of built-in effects and transitions that you can use for your short videos. For instance, you can use Instagram Reel’s Transition: Warp to transport yourself from one place to another just by turning your head.

Alternatively, you can achieve the same effect by doing a manual DIY transition.

STEP 1: Film yourself using the selfie camera, then turn your phone towards the right.

STEP 2: For the second clip, turn your phone towards the right before you start filming.

STEP 3: When you put both clips together, you’ll get a sort of warping effect.
