‘Op Tapis Khas’, conducted on 21 to 23 January, took place in various states across the country including Selangor, Sabah, Perak, as well as Negeri Sembilan, involving 367 drug dens or hideouts. The highest number of arrests were in Selangor.
According to New Straits Times, Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said, “During the three-day operations, the police, at the same time, also detained 942 drug peddlers including teenagers. A total of 129 detainees were foreigners.”
Those detained were 4,987 men and 213 women aged between 13 and 60. Of that number, there were two 13-year-olds and 74 aged between 14 and 18. Based on Utusan Malaysia‘s report, those aged 13 were tested positive for drugs.
